Ahsan Naseem MD

Dr. Naseem is a double board certified psychiatrist in Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry. He completed his residency and fellowship training at Henry Ford Hospital and Detroit Medical Center. Dr. Naseem has more than 15 years of experience in the care of adult and older adults in outpatient, acute, and residential settings. He welcomes the chance to treat complex clinical presentations with the aim of helping the whole individual. Dr. Naseem is a non-certified but competent motorcycle mechanic, a published playwright, an avid juicer, and enjoys traveling internationally.

Serena Macauley APRN-BC

Serena Macauley is a board certified family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.  Serena has been treating clients at Cheney Psychiatric since it opened in 2010 and is a founding member.  She has experience treating children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.  Serena enjoys offering consultation, a team approach to care, and educating patients and families about diagnosis and medication.  She has experience diagnosing and treating clients with complex mental health conditions as well as patients with comorbid medical conditions.  She is able to provide medication management.

Marcia Carlson APRN-BC

Marcia Carlson is a Board Certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree from Clarkson College and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. While in graduate school, Marcia was a clinical instructor for undergraduate students at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for their psychiatric rotation. Marcia has over 20 years of experience as a psychiatric nurse, 16+ years have been working with children and adolescents.  She has experience working with youth who are experiencing situational stressors as well as those with severe mental illness and developmental disabilities. She has served as the charge nurse for many years on a busy youth mental health unit, where she worked very closely with patients, families, physicians, and other members of the treatment team. She enjoys working with patients of all ages with a special interest in youth.  Treating patients and their families with respect and individualized care is of upmost importance. Marcia believes patients should be treated in a holistic manner utilizing a biopsychosocial approach to assessment and treatment.  Marcia is a native of Nebraska and enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and friends.  She enjoys traveling, watching movies, and of course Nebraska football.

Sabrina Hellbusch APRN-BC

Sabrina Hellbusch is a Board Certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Sabrina has experience working with adolescent and adult patients in outpatient and inpatient medical and psychiatric settings. She has worked extensively with patients diagnosed with both psychiatric and substance use disorders. Sabrina believes in creating a welcoming and nonjudgmental environment where patients can freely express themselves. She practices with a patient-centered approach in ongoing collaboration with primary care providers, medical specialists, and psychotherapists. Sabrina provides psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing monitoring. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outside with her family, live music, and volunteering for a local dog rescue.

Amy Barker MD

Dr. Amy Barker is double boarded in General and Child Adolescent Psychiatry.  She attended UCLA for her BA in Geography, received an MA in English Literature at San Francisco State University and completed her MD at UNMC.  She completed her residency and fellowship at Creighton and UNMC.  She has over 7 years of experience treating children and adolescents at Bryan Medical Center Youth Psychiatric Unit.  She enjoys riding her Ducati and Yamaha WR 250.

Katie Hunsberger PhD

Katie Hunsberger has a Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from Arizona State University.  She served as a military psychologist in the U.S. Navy for four years. Her duties included, provision of clinical psychology evaluations, assessments and services; special evaluations for military service members; the integration of mental health services into primary care/medical clinic; supervisor/trainer to Family Practice residents; administrative roles; and served on various boards and committees.  She worked in a civilian outpatient medical center for 9 and a half years providing clinical psychological evaluation, testing, and therapeutic services.  She is the current psychologist/owner of Justice Behavioral Health Services, L.L.C.  Katie provides of psychotherapeutic services, primarily with adults, addressing a wide range of presenting issues to include depression, anxiety, bipolar, and other mood disorders, trauma/PTSD, chronic pain and health issues, comorbid disorders with substance use disorders, life transitions and adjustment issues, physical health issues, chronic mental illness, and hoarding behaviors.  She is one of only a few Nebraska mental health professionals trained in the provision of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia.  Katie also provides additional services to children through older age populations including diagnostic interviews/differential diagnosis evaluations, psychological testing, bariatric evaluations, and memory disorders screening.

Tiffany Kavanaugh LCSW, LIMHP, LLC

Tiffany Kavanaugh graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan with high distinction in social work, sociology, and anthropology.  She enjoys part-time clinic hours working with adults, adolescents, and families.  She uses a blend of supportive, cognitive, mindfulness and trauma-based therapies.  Outside of work she loves to spend time with her husband, 3 kids, and extended family.  Tiffany also volunteers at church, special needs ministry, and her children's school.

Heather Dohrman LIMHP

Heather Dohrman is a licensed independent mental health therapist with 10 years of experience.  Heather’s areas of experience include treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, LGBTQ issues, and life transitions.  Methods of treatment include cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and interpersonal and social rhythm therapy.  Heather is trained in the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator and has a particular interest in the impact of personality traits on mental health and relationships.  Heather provides a nonjudgmental, relaxed atmosphere for clients.  She believes in working as a team to identify problems, generate strategies, and plan for navigating future life stressors.

Lisa Laurell LICSW

Lisa Laurell is a licensed clinical social worker and independent mental health practitioner.  She has worked for over 25 years in the field of providing clinical expertise to a variety of people with mental health concerns.  She has worked in both public and private settings.  Lisa has been a clinical social worker for the past 17 years in the state offender treatment center; assessing, establishing treatment plans, helping individuals recognize, accept their risks and adapting changes to function in a safer manner.  She has provided treatment to mental health clients in outpatient and inpatient settings.  She has excellent clinical and assessment skills and implements a variety of treatment techniques to assist clients in changing their lives to achieve potential and optimum mental health.  Lisa also enjoys volunteering at her children's school, church activities, and has coached for YMCA sports. She loves cooking sweets almost as much as she likes her exercise classes.

Judy L. Gonnerman LPN, LIMHP, LPC

Judy received her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from Doane College in 2001.  She is a seasoned Licensed Practical Nurse, a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner, Neuro/Bio feedback Practitoner, fully trained EMDR therapist (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) and a EAGALA certified Mental Health Specialist in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning.  Judy works with children, adolescents, and adults, she combines traditonal talk therapies with her knowledge of medicine to provide the best treatment options and protocols based on the client's individual needs.  She works with individuals, couples, and families with an emphasis on the mind, body and spirit.  Areas of expertise include attention deficit disorder, grief and bereavement, anger management, domestic violence, trauma recovery, mood disorders, adjustment to medical conditions, stress management, and spirituality.  Judy is committed to providing the highest quality of care to promote your healing and growth. 

Jill K. Wertz LADC, LIMHP

Jill received her Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Doane College in 1999.  Jill has over 20 years of experience working in the addictions field. She is a firm believer in empowering families to effectively intervene with children who may be struggling with addiction issues, as well as managing the myraid of other dynamics often associated with helping any family member overcome sustance abuse problems.  Jill works easily with both adults and adolescents, and is highly-skilled in working with individuals, couples, and families.  She is an EMDR trained clinician (Level I).  Jill has lived in the Lincoln community her entire life, enjoying many strong relationships in the community and within the juvenile and adult justice system, drug courts, the state health and human services system, and local school systems.  Jill enjoys the outdoors and also co-owns a company that creates hand-made greeting cards.

Amanda Lingg LIMHP, LADC

Amanda Lingg is a licensed independent mental health practitioner and licensed alcohol and drug counselor.  She has experience working with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health issues.  Amanda has provided treatment in both inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities.  She provides individual, group, family, marital and premarital therapy.  Amanda is trained in the Duluth model of domestic violence intervention.  She is trained to conduct substance abuse and mental health evaluations and provide treatment recommendations.  Amanda is a Nebraska native but received her education in Missouri and spent time studying abroad.  

Brienne Meaghers Hays LIMHP
Meaghers Hays

Brienne Meaghers-Hays is a licensed independent mental health therapist with over 10 years of experience working with men and women of all age groups and diverse backgrounds.  Brienne's area of experience include the treatment of PTSD, depression, anxiety, Bipolar, grief/loss, emotional dysregulation, and interpersonal relational difficulties. Methods of treatment include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PET), play therapy, and solution focused therapy.  Brienne has particular interest in complicated grief and loss in relationship to miscarriage/infant loss, traumatic/premature birth, and infertility.  Brienne approaches therapy with warmth and an open mind, utilizing a variety of different tools based on the individual needs of the client. She promotes clients having an active role in therapy, to include treatment planning and evaluation. 

Patricia Sandoval LICSW

Patty Sandoval is a clinical social worker and mental health therapist. She has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in social work.She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and her master’s degree from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico.She has worked in a variety of settings throughout her career. She has worked in inpatient psychiatric hospitals, medical hospitals, the Veteran’s Hospital and in outpatient counseling centers. She works with most age groups and specializes in providing therapy a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, adjustment and resiliency, stress management as well as medical issues.

Ali Zavala-Beekman LIMHP

Ali Jo Zavala-Beekman is a licensed independent mental health therapist with 13 years of experience. She enjoys part-time hours working with all ages but specializes in the child/adolescent and young adult populations. Ali has extensive experience with the child welfare and probation systems, Acute Inpatient hospitalization, residential levels of care for youth and emotionally dealing with T1D as a mom of a T1D warrior. She is also certified in the Duluth Domestic Violence Model, Nurturing Parenting Model and Intensive Family Preservation Model. Ali uses a variety of therapeutic approaches so that each client’s care is individualized. In her free time she loves spending time with her husband and 3 very active little boys!

Kylee Stuart LCSW, LIMHP

Kylee Stuart is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner.  She has been working as a psychotherapist for over 15 years.  She has experience in Trauma, Addictions, Depression, Anxiety and Chronic Pain.  However, has treated all mental health issues and also offers EMDR.  In her free time she loves to travel to new places. 

Samantha Selig

Samantha Selig has been with Cheney Psychiatric since January of 2012.  She started as our office assistant and is now our office manager.  She is a vital part of Cheney Psychiatric and knows all the ins and outs.  Please contact her if you are having any problems or have questions.

Jennifer Bradford

Jennifer is one of our front desk staff and has been with Cheney Psychiatric since August 2016.  She has a great knowledge of patient insurance so if you have any questions feel free to reach out to her. 

Michela Iwanski

Michela is one of our front desk staff. She is currently studying Psychology, Sociology, and Communication at UNL. Michela has worked with many different populations and has a lot of experience in the Human Services field.
